Memorable and important rites of passage and family reunions need presence of a disabled person for their own recovery. Marking important events, keeping these celebrations in mind, and recalling stories connecting the people hold the glue of a family member who may not be well.

Control is a de-motivator to limit behaviors. Accountability sets a record for greater honesty for behavior, budgets, health, or any goal set.
Goals are positive for motivation, and we all know they should be measurable and realistic. When known to the person, he or she will strive to reach them. They could be for behavior modification, sales targets, or maintaining a level of success. It is accountable to document them and observe, even record, progress on reaching the goals. Rewards intrinsic or extrinsic help internalize wanted behavior.
